Fjórfættir uppvakningar

U.S. Scientists Create Zombie Dogs
"U.S. scientists have managed to revive dead dogs to life, by using a technique similar to cryogenation, in which the dogs' blood was drained and replaced by a cold, saline liquid. A couple of hours, their blood was replaced, and an electric shock brought them back to life with no brain damage. The technology will be tested on humans within the next year."

Vígvæðing í Kína

Washington Post: Chinese dragon awakens
China is building its military forces faster than U.S. intelligence and military analysts expected, prompting fears that Beijing will attack Taiwan in the next two years, according to Pentagon officials.
U.S. defense and intelligence officials say all the signs point in one troubling direction: Beijing then will be forced to go to war with the United States, which has vowed to defend Taiwan against a Chinese attack.
China's military buildup includes an array of new high-technology weapons, such as warships, submarines, missiles and a maneuverable warhead designed to defeat U.S. missile defenses. Recent intelligence reports also show that China has stepped up military exercises involving amphibious assaults, viewed as another sign that it is preparing for an attack on Taiwan

Legalized abortion responsible for decline in crime rate
Summary:

Canadian abortion rights activist Dr. Henry Morgentaler was recently awarded an honourary doctorate by the University of Western Ontario. While anti-choice activists in the U.S. are bolstering their efforts to have a woman’s right to choose repealed, I think the right to reproductive choices will continue to be protected here, in Canada.

There are always protesters against pro-choice activists, and organizations like Planned Parenthood, but even the right-wing party, the Conservative Party of Canada, recently took the abortion issue off the agenda.

This story, while concentrating on the controversy that the book Freakonomics has generated, still points to an important issue: how women denied the choice over reproduction, are likely those in situations where they cannot or wish not to care for children. This is hardly healthy and does not provide children with a supportive, nurturing environment.

Two cautions: one, poor, or single mothers are not inherently unfit mothers; two, much crime is not part of anti-social behaviour, but undertaken out of a lack of choices.
